Lisa Parker Hayreh, PhD, has devoted her career to helping people heal from psychological trauma. As a clinical psychologist specializing in trauma for over three decades, she served on the frontlines of the Intensive Care Unit, Burn Unit, and Medical Trauma teams at Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. There, she witnessed the raw vulnerability of patients and the emotional toll experienced by their families. Her hands-on experience offering bedside psychological care and emotional support during medical crises gives her rare insight into the unique world of ICU trauma.

Lisa has worked with survivors in both inpatient and outpatient settings and has delivered training on trauma-informed care to health professionals across the country. Through her writing—both fiction and nonfiction—she continues to advocate for compassionate, informed, and effective support for those facing life’s most difficult moments.

Her upcoming book is designed for families, caregivers, and professionals who find themselves in the unfamiliar world of the ICU. It combines practical medical explanations with psychological strategies to reduce distress, promote healing, and offer real-time support when it’s needed most. This is more than a medical guide—it’s a lifeline for anyone navigating the new normal after a medical crisis.
